Hi guys,

I posted this in the member discussion forum, but thought I should post it here as well to make sure it gets noticed.

We've hit a bit of a wall in mythic raiding my friends. And dps, its OUR fault. So, what to do? Well here are some videos to help get things rolling as far as changes we need. I know this guy can be seriously long winded, and 95% of this information is stuff most of us already know. But we are MYTHIC raiders. The difference between downing a boss and banging our heads against the wall is in that 5%. This is the fine tuning level of raiding, where the smallest change makes the biggest difference. This is where dps must become OBSESSIVE about our job if we want to down bosses. 

This is the Preach Gaming 4 part series on DPS for WOD. I know I know, some of you might hate this guy, but these are actually helpful. It covers general concepts for all dps classes and how to raid dps. It is NOT a class specific guide. But I don't think thats whats needed for most of us at this point. I think we've got some bad raiding habits. I see lack of communication, lack of raid awareness (big time!!, says the pinned gnome..), and lack of encounter comprehension. Just because you blow shit up, doesn't mean you are worth a damn to the raid.

Throw away your meters and screw ranking! Logs are great, but I see no value in meters or ranking. Just because one mage does more damage than another mage, doesn't make him a better mage in a mythic raid. A big part of what makes mythic so hard is that dps must prioritize damage and focus where it matters. That isn't as simple as shooting the right stuff, prioritize means staying the fuck out of bad shit FIRST, then damaging what needs damage, and going into those damage phases with cooldowns at the ready. In mythic raiding OUR decisions are just as important as the decisions the tanks and healers are making. Let me say that again, OUR decisions are JUST AS IMPORTANT as the decisions the tanks and healers are making.

Which brings me to what I think is our worst habit. We seem to feel we don't need to know what the hell is going on, and we tend to just expect our raid leader to tell us what to do. I do it, and so do most of you. THIS IS WHY BOSSES AREN'T DYING. This has to end if we are going to progress. We have to understand these bosses just as well as the tank, raid leader, and healers do. It's not about blowing our cds when we can do the most damage anymore, it's about how many times we can use them, and what needs to die fastest. You might very well find you do LESS on the meter, and MORE to kill the boss.
